New Castle Motorsports Park and Kart Racers of America News

Archive April thru October

10/27/04 - Banquet News - The Banquet will be held Saturday December 4th with dinner being served at 6pm and the Banquet will start at 7pm, it will be held at New Castle Motorsports Park. We have sent out fliers and banquet forms to all our members, if you did not recieve a Banquet flier please contact us and let us know. You must RSVP by November 11th due to limited seating. No tickets will be sold at the door.

10/18/04 - The Three Hour Endurance race was a great success with 27 teams and 70 drivers competing for a purse worth over $7000! Mother nature was the biggest news item on the day with winds around 15 mph temps in the high 40's and a couple full course cautions and a red flag for rain and SLEET! The winning team ran 162 laps around NCMP in 3 hrs 10 minutes (extended due to the red flag) with a margin of only 7 seconds! NCMP would like to thank all the teams, drivers and crews for braving the cold conditions and helping us put on a successful and fun event and we hope to have 2-3 endurance races like this in 2005! We had drivers from as far away as California, North Carolina and Iowa! Full team results are available online.

1st - TKM Motorsports
Drivers - Adam Rovazzini, Mark Dismore Jr.

2nd - Team DBR
Drivers - Billy Lewis, Jeremy Warren

3rd - Team BRC
Drivers - Mike Burrell, Brian Robson, John Crow

4th - Margison Racing
Drivers - Dick Margison, Nathan O'Rourke, Ian Smith

5th - Tool Time Racing
Drivers - Dan "The Tool Man" Taylor, Rob Smith, Mark Harrison

10/7/04 - Three Hour Endurance News - In an effort to avoid every TaG and Piston Port Entry from going out and buying a belt drive system, the rule for the endurance race is chain drive only, no on-board oilers.

Also one area that will be controlled to make sure there is a level field and to help eliminate controversy, Torco 110 race gas will be MANDATORY, the cost is $4.00 per gallon and is available at NCMP. You may use Burris Blend/Castor, Blendzall Ultra or Redline Oil. Fuel will be teched.

10/6/04 - We now have 18 teams entered for the October 16th endurance race, and have enough to go forward with the event. Thanks to everyone who got their entries in. If you intend to race we would appreciate if you could enter ASAP so we can organize the event properly.

Rules Clarification - Front wheel brakes are not permitted on TaG or Piston Port karts for the 3 hour race, if the kart has front wheel brakes they do not have to be removed but must be disabled to the satisfaction of the event promoters. Also no dual rear calipers are permitted if not OEM (e.g. CRG 2000 up system).

10/4/04 - With less than two weeks remaining until the Three Hour Endurance race, we are 15 teams short of making this race a reality. We have talked to a lot of people who plan on entering teams but we need those teams to enter sometime this week. We will make a desision to either cancel the race or hold the event by Saturday October 9th. We are hoping to make this a 3 or 4 race series in 2005 if we can get enough support from racers.

In the event the race is cancelled, all entries will be refunded immediately.

9/30/04 - The points for the 2004 KRA Series Finale and season end points are now available.

9/28/04 - If any teams are looking for drivers for the 3 hour endurance race we have been contacted by some drivers looking for seats. Please let us know if your looking for drivers or looking for a ride, we'll be happy to get everyone in contact with each other.

9/27/04 - We are getting a lot of interest in our 3 Hour Endurance race on October 16th, but in order for this event and future Endurance events to become a reality we need teams to enter ASAP so we can organize the event properly. If you do not have all your drivers in place yet you can still enter the team and add/change drivers at a later date or on race day. Also, pre-entry teams will have first choice on their hot pit placement, we currently have 5 teams entered. We hope to receive a lot of entries and support for this event so we can make this into a future series at NCMP with 3 or 4 races in 2005. Rules and Entry Form

9/20/04 - A picture perfect day was on hand this Sunday for the Final Round of the KRA Series. The turnout was great and the racing was even better! IRL driver Tomas Schecter even raced in the Unlimited/Open TaG heat race before having to leave for other commitments. All classes ran a qualifying session, heat race and feature for the last round. The KRA Series banquet will be in mid-November with details coming soon. Results are now posted for Round 12.

Even though this marks the end of the 2004 KRA Series there is still plenty of racing left at NCMP in 2004 with SIRA running this weekend, OVKA in two weeks, the SKUSA Great Lakes on October 9-10 and the 3 Hour Endurance race October 16th!

9/18/04 - Points for Round 11 of the KRA Series are now updated. Please be patient following Round 12 as we have to figure in everyone's one race drop into their points for their final total. DQ's are not allowed to be dropped.

9/14/04 - The rumors are true! NCMP will be hosting a 3 Hour Endurance race for TaG's and Piston Port's on Saturday October 16th! With a guaranteed purse of $2000 for the winning team and $1500 for second place! Complete rules and schedule are online.

For the KRA Series Finale this weekend, we will run the long track with the Monza included! Gearing should not be affected by more than a tooth. The track will run the standard direction.

9/13/04 - A beautiful day greeted KRA Series competitors Sunday morning for the next to last round of the series. With only one more weekend left in the KRA Series, drivers were hoping to maximize their points with many classes still hotly contested. The racing was close and exciting with many classes decided on the last lap! Sunday September 19th will be the last round of the 2004 KRA Season and we hope to see everyone there! Results from Round 11 are now available online!

9/11/04 - Points are updated for Round 10 of the KRA Series.

9/7/04 - With the rescheduling of the KRA banquet until mid-October we are going to make our season finale for the KRA Series on Sunday September 19th a one-day event with open practice on Saturday. Barring any weather issues we will have one round of practice, qualifying for all classes, One Heat race for all classes and the features.

8/31/04 - Round 10 of the KRA Series started with gray skies and a damp track. Following a round of track drying practice the track stayed dry the rest of the day. Coming down to the last three races of the year the racing was fast and close with many championships still undecided. The last two KRA races of the year will be held on back to back weekends starting Sunday September 12th. Results for Round 10 are now online. NCMP will be closed Sunday and Monday for Labor Day.

8/25/04 - The KRA Banquet will be moved to a Saturday in mid-October. We feel having the Banquet on a Sunday night might not work out as well with school being back in session and allow people more time to unwind following the season. We will have details on the banquet soon. We are also working on the schedule for our season finale and are looking at some special races that weekend.

8/20/04 - KRA Series points for Race 9 are updated. Only three races remain in the 2004 KRA Series! The next KRA race will be on Sunday August 29th, make sure you get in your preentry! Also, plans for the KRA Series Finale and Banquet are in full swing, we will have details and schedules for both soon!

8/11/04 - On Saturday August 28th, NCMP will have a SKUSA Regional from 8am to 4pm, the track will be open for practice after 4pm to all karters.

8/5/04 - The 2004 "Race for Riley" event exceeded our expectations and a BIG thanks to all the drivers and crews who braved what looked like a wet day to come out and race! Thankfully the forecasted afternoon rains never came and all the classes got to qualify and race in the dry. The racing was very good in front of a packed house of over 400 spectators, with the best race of the day being the Junior SSX Can Feature, the lead was swapped over 4 times in the last couple laps with the win decided on the last corner when the top three crossed the line with only a .150 second gap!

NASCAR driver John Andretti was on hand and raced 8 other drivers who donated to Riley for a chance to run a heat race where the top two transferred to the feature to race John Andretti. The charity race was very good with John Andretti taking the lead back on the last lap to take the win over Adam Schaff and Chris Wheeler.

Thanks to IMPACT Racing Products who donated 4 helmets to the winners and gloves and shoes to second and third, Comet Kart Sales for donating tires, oil and gift certificates, Mo Scoop for donating clutch coolers and AIM Sports for donating Mychron Multichron stopwatches. With 25 karts in Unlimited/Open Tag the winner took home $400 in prize money plus a new Impact Helmet! The winners in Yamaha Heavy and 125cc Shifter received $250.00 plus a new Impact Helmet! The Junior class winner took home a $200 gift certificate from Comet Kart Sales plus a new Impact Helmet! We also want to thank 1070 WIBC and Dave Wilson for doing a live remote from NCMP. Dave also read off the top 5 finishers from the four feature events live on WIBC. Local news stations we're also on hand shooting lots of video and showing highlights from the day on the evening news.

Plans are already moving forward for the 2005 "Race for Riley" and all indications look like the event could be double in size with much larger purses and more products! Results are available online.

7/28/04 - The gallery photos have been updated with new aerial photos and photos of the completed new building including the restaurant and parts shop.

7/26/04 - Round Nine of the KRA Series started out cool and dry but then the rains came. Finally a rain race was declared and all classes were given a rain practice before the features. All classes were lined up by points as the karts rolled off the grid. Luckily only two classes had to run in full wet setups with the Kid Karts and Junior Briggs classes doing a great job in the wet conditions. By the time Yamaha Medium ran, over half the field were on wet tires but those who gambled with dry tires took the win and fastest race lap. From then on out the day was dry and all classes switched back to dry tires. Results are available online.

The KRA Series will be off the next few weeks as the Great Lakes Sprint Series WKA Divisional comes to town as well as the Ohio Valley Karting Association the following weekend followed by the SKUSA Promoto Championships. We invite all competitors out to all those events and hope to see some KRA members competing in those events. Also, Wednesday August 4th will be the "Race for Riley" charity karting event, it's not to late to enter!

7/17/04 - The "Race for Riley" charity event practice will begin at 9am on Wednesday August 4th, the remainder of the schedule will be handed out at the event.

7/15/04 - Response to the "Race for Riley" on August 4th has been tremendous. Bill Simpson & Impact Racing Products will be awarding 1st place in each of the 4 money races a New Impact Charger Helmet! 2nd place will recieve Team Impact Race Shoes and 3rd place will receive Team Impact Gloves!

Also in response to the charity event we will also offer a Pro 125cc Shifter race. We need a minimum of 20 entries for each class so please come out and support this great cause!

NCMP would like to thank JD Byrider for their support, JD Byrider will present a donation to Riley's Children Hospital during the event.

AIM Sports/Mychron will be donating product for the Race for Riley.

7/14/04 - New Castle Motorsports Park and NASCAR Driver John Andretti will be hosting a fundraiser on Wednesday August 4th for Riley's Children Hospital at NCMP. The event will feature a celebrity media race, NASCAR Driver's autograph session and the event will be live on 1070 WIBC from 4-7pm. The event will also be open to the public.

In addition, NCMP will also host an Unlimited/Open TaG Pro Race and Yamaha Pipe Heavy Pro Race as well as an amateur Junior Yamaha SSX Can race. The Pro races are $60.00 to enter with $30.00 going to Riley and $30.00 going to the purse. The Junior class is $30.00 with all proceeds going to Riley, prizes will be given away in the Juniors class. We will have practice, qualifying, heat and feature. The feature races will be ran while WIBC is live on the air. Rules and tires will be the same as all KRA Series races for that class. This is an excellent chance for karters to showcase their talents in front of the media, professional drivers and the public as well as help donate to a good cause. The event will be rain or shine, all KRA Rules and Tech Rules apply. We have a special pre-entry form available for this event.

7/13/04 - Points for Round 8 of the KRA Series is now updated.

Unlimited/Open Tag will change positions in the rotation with Spec Tag for the remaining 5 races of the KRA Series.

7/7/04 - The reconfigured of the track is about 8 seconds a lap faster, with this we will be able to add 1 lap to each feature, 125cc Shifters will also run a 15 lap feature starting this weekend.

7/6/04 - The KRA Series returns this weekend for round eight. NCMP will present a revised track layout for this weekends event. (Gearing won't be affected). Come out to NCMP and check it out! Preentries are being taken online and raceday entries are available on Sunday July 11th.

News and results from the Stars of Karting event are available on their website. Thanks to all the competitors, teams and spectators that came out to NCMP this weekend.

6/29/04 - Another beautiful weekend of blue skies, warm temps and kart racing at NCMP. Results for Sunday's seventh round of the KRA Series are available online. The KRA Series will return to action for round 8 on July 11th, hope to see everyone there!

This weekend will see the Stars of Karting national series competing at NCMP with some of the best shifter kart and direct drive karters in the country running at NCMP. Everyone is invited to come out to NCMP and see some great racing action!

6/24/04 - From this weekend on, the KRA Series will run in the rain if the weather calls for it, kid karts will not be ran in the rain. Any rain tires may be used but they have to be a manufactured rain tire.

6/21/04 - This weekend seen the Midwest Sprint Series WKA Divisional descend on NCMP. The racing and the weather couldn't have been better with some of the best karters in the country running on the 1 mile road course. The track was the fastest it has been with all classes breaking previously held track records. NCMP would like to thank all the competitors and officials of the MWSS for a great weekend. Results for the MWSS are available online.

This coming weekend the KRA Series will return for the seventh round of the championship. Pre-entries are being taken online.

6/16/04 - KRA Series points are updated for round six.

6/15/04 - Results are now posted for the sixth round of the KRA Series. This weekend's race marked the halfway point in the KRA Series. All weather reports were calling for a washout but Mother Nature held off once again and allowed us to get all the races off in the dry without any problems. The KRA Series will take this weekend off as NCMP hosts the Midwest Sprint Series WKA Divisional. All signs point to this being a huge event with some of kartings best coming to NCMP. NCMP will be open for practice all week with racing on Saturday and Sunday. Raceday signup for the Midwest Sprint Series race will be available.

6/8/04 - June 19th and 20th will bring the Midwest Sprint Series to NCMP. For those who are not aware the Midwest Sprint Series is part of the WKA Divisional Series and features some of the best sprint karters in the USA. If local racers are interested in running the MWSS but are not familiar with what's involved you'll need a WKA temporary membership available that weekend for only $15.00 and make sure your running the proper tires and weights that the MWSS uses. The best part is that most classes are almost identical to those ran in the KRA Series with almost no difference including tires. For more information on rules and to enter online visit midwestsprint.com

Points for Race 5 of the KRA Series are now updated. Please remember that these totals do not include the One race drop.

Reminder - The KRA Series requires all competitors to run the correct Spec Tires for their class whether they are running for points or not, drivers will not be allowed to race until the correct tire is on the kart. Anyone caught in post race tech with the wrong tires might lose their points for the year!

6/6/04 - Another beautiful day of weather greeted KRA Series competitors and spectators for Round Five. The track was fast with most classes breaking the lap records set only last week. This weekend also seen the opening of the Racer's Grill. NCMP would like to thank everyone for their patience during lunch and we're working hard to make sure that next weekend's wait will be much shorter. Next weekend's race will mark the halfway point in the KRA Series. Results are now online for round five.

6/5/04 - KRA Series Points from Race 4 are now updated.

6/2/04 - The Racers Grill Resturant located in the main building will be open for Lunch on Saturday June 5th and for breakfast/lunch on raceday, Sunday June 6th. Also the bathrooms are now open in the main building. The bathrooms on the east end of the building should be complete in the next week.

5/27/04 - KRA/NCMP News Update - Starting with round five of the KRA Series, Yamaha SSX Medium will no longer be ran due to lack of participation, all points will transfer over to Yamaha SSX Heavy. With less classes this will allow for a better banquet with fewer classes come seasons end.

Also starting with round five the Racers Grill restaurant should be up and running! Besides hamburgers and hotdogs, the Racers Grill will have a large selection of food not available at most kart tracks, look for more information soon! Along with the restaurant we should have all the bathrooms open complete with running water!

A lot of work has gone into seeding and fertilizing of the pit areas to allow parking even after it rains. We apologize for any inconvenience the parking areas have caused and we are working hard on prepping it for our next race.

With over 150 competitors competing last weekend we we're extremely happy that the raceday ended just after 3pm. Weather permitting, we always hope to have all the classes complete by 4pm to allow travel time home and make everyone's experience at NCMP the best it can be!

5/23/04 - After two KRA Race weekends of drying the track in the morning, racers we're treated to sunny skies and dry race track for round 4 of the KRA Series at NCMP! After 3 rounds of practice and a round of qualifying, the racing was fast, close and safe. It was a great weekend and minutes after the finish of the last class the rains returned but thankfully not a single race lap was wet! Race results are available online.

5/19/04 - NCMP in the news. Link

5/17/04 - Race #4 of the KRA Series is set for this Sunday!

There was an awesome turnout for this weekends SIRA event at NCMP. NCMP would like to thank SIRA and all the competitors for a fast, safe event! Look for results and more available on www.sirakarting.com

5/10/04 - Results for this weekends Indiana State Championships are online.

KRA Race #3 points are updated.

5/6/04 - Due to insurance requirements, any crew members over the age of 5 must have a pit pass in the trailer area, garage area or anywhere in the pit area during practice or racedays. Anyone caught without a pitpass will be asked to leave immediately.

5/3/04 - Different week, same story, rain and racing! Another rainy start greeted KRA Series competitors for their third round of the 12 race series. After a couple hours of track work the surface was dry enough to allow a break-in session followed by qualifying. Halfway through qualifying the clouds started to break and the sun peaked out. Despite the morning showers there was a great turnout and racing on track was clean and exciting. The KRA Series takes off the next two weeks as the Indiana State Karting Championship and the SIRA compete the next two weekends at NCMP.

Results for round three of the KRA Series are online.

4/29/04 - Points from KRA Series Race 2 are updated.

Rules Update - Front Wheel Brakes are allowed in Unlimited and 125cc Shifter classes ONLY. No other classes in the KRA Series will allow front wheel brakes.

4/25/04 - Well Mother Nature didn't want to cooperate this morning for the second KRA Series event of the year and after 30 minutes of track drying it started raining again! But just when all hopes for this weekend looked lost, the clouds started to part and the sun peaked out. We finally got the track dry enough to allow a break in practice and from then on the day was dry and sunny. The racing for this second round was even better than last weekend with lots of nose to tail racing and drafting from the green to checkered! The KRA Series would like to thank all the competitors who stuck it out this morning and to all the workers and volunteers for all their hard work. Race results are available here.

4/23/04 - We have had a few inquiries about what we will do if it rains this weekend. The KRA Series will race in the rain this season but will not run in the rain this weekend if it does rain for two reasons. The first reason is the lack of grass off the track, we doubt that most karters want to end up in a mudhole but once the grass takes better hold we will run in the rain. The second reason is workers, we don't want to have the workers to have to sit in the cold rain this time of year.

The races for this weekend are still on and we don't expect to have to cancel this weekend, we would wait until at least noon on Sunday before we would need to cancel an event. In the event the race is canceled we will roll over this weekend's pre entrys to next weekend. If the event is started and is rained out later in the day we will postpone the race until later in the season.

4/21/04 - The inaugural event for the KRA Series and New Castle Motorsports Park has finally come and gone. A big thank you to all the volunteers, karters, crew and spectators who made our first event a success! All qualifying and feature results are available online at mylaps.com - direct link -

A reminder to please pre enter for this Sunday's second KRA Series event!

Points are now updated and available online.

CLASS CHANGE - Effective immediately Briggs Medium will no longer be ran. Briggs Heavy is now Briggs Senior and will be ran with the Briggs Masters Over 35 class but will be scored seperately. See the class page for more information.
